HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets

General information about installation

Before starting construction, check whether official conditions apply or are required for your construction site. Our instructions are recommendations based on years of experience and may differ in individual cases. They reflect our current state of knowledge, but do not constitute any responsibility on our part. This is the responsibility of the contractor or client carrying out the work. Plastic panels are permeable to water vapor due to the natural properties of the material. Cracking noises can be caused by the natural expansion behavior of corrugated sheets in conjunction with the selected substructure. Suitable systems can provide a remedy and reduce the noise. The use of different raw materials can lead to production-related color deviations.

Instructions

The installation length must not exceed 4,000 mm. For larger dimensions, two or more panels must be installed overlapping. The tiles must not be fastened in the overlap of two tiles.

The overlap in the direction of the watercourse depends on the roof pitch:

  • Roof pitch from 9° to 17° = 200 mm
  • Roof pitch over 17° = 150 mm

REQUIRED MOUNTING AND INSTALLATION ACCESSORIES

Depending on the construction project, the following tools and aids are required for the installation of HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets.

  • Brush
  • White, lightfast emulsion paint
  • Tape measure
  • Drill
  • Cone drill/ plastic drill bit
  • Screws for fastening the corrugated sheets
  • Hand-held circular saw with multi-tooth saw blade

and / or

  • Jigsaw with saw blade for "hard plastics"
  • Planks/ carpet pad as scratch protection

Tips

Laying

When laying corrugated sheets, a maximum sheet length of 4,000 mm should not be exceeded. An overlapping installation method is typical for this product. For textured sheets, the smooth side should always be laid facing upwards.

Storage

Store indoors if possible. HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets are protected against sunlight, UV radiation and moisture during shipment by a white PE hood (recyclable). Do not remove this outer packaging when storing outdoors. A maximum of 3 standard pallets can be stacked on top of each other. Cover opened pallets with white colored PE film.

Flammability

HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets are classified as normally flammable (DIN 4102-B2). Observe the same precautions against flames and high heat as apply to wood and other combustible building materials. Only use corrugated sheets in accordance with the applicable building guidelines and the manufacturer's instructions.

Walking on

Access is only permitted with planks at least 50 cm wide (see e.g. Workplace Guidelines 8/5, VBG 37 n. ZH 1/489). The plank should have an appropriate thickness to prevent bending.

Cutting to size

HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets can be cut with high-speed circular saws. Use carbide-tipped saw blades. Avoid chipping the cut edge.

Drilling

Use tapered drill bits to drill the fixing holes. Drill against a smooth surface to avoid bending and possible cracking. Ensure that the drill edges are smooth. Chipped drill edges can lead to cracking over time.

Trimming corners

To avoid quadruple overlapping of the panels at points with height and side overlaps, the corners of the two middle panels must be cut off. The cut surfaces of these corner cuts should have a clearance of at least 10 mm.

Roof pitch

To ensure that the self-cleaning effect of the rainwater run-off is effective, we recommend installing the HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets with a roof pitch of at least 5°, corresponding to 9 cm/m. The sheets must be secured against slipping. Irrespective of the roof pitch, the customer must ensure that there is an appropriate seal to the wall. We recommend the use of original HIGHLUX® wall connections and ridge profiles.

Expansion tolerance

HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets expand when exposed to moisture and heat. An expansion clearance of + 6 mm/m sheet length and width must therefore be provided. The size of the drill holes must allow for the natural expansion of the corrugated sheets. Cracking noises can occur when the panels expand. This does not affect the serviceability of the panels. Experience has shown that cracking noises can be reduced if the screws are tightened to the point of resistance against the panel and then loosened again by half a turn.

Screw connections

The screw connections should always be made at the crest of the wave. Do not screw in the overlaps between two panels. The panels are fastened to the substructure using façade screws or screw hooks together with spherical caps. They seal the fastening holes against water from the outside and ensure that the force is applied to the panel in the correct way when loaded by snow and wind. The screw and drill hole must not touch each other.

Cleaning

Clear, lukewarm water or a mild soapy solution are suitable for cleaning the surface. To avoid scratches, do not use abrasive materials. Only use cleaning agents and auxiliary materials that are compatible with acrylic glass. Then rinse with clean water.

Compatibility

Auxiliary materials for assembly, cleaning agents and solvents, sealing materials, etc. can cause stress cracking even after a long period of time. Ensure that these are compatible with acrylic glass. Ask your specialist dealer for recommendations on sealants.

Substructure

Glazing with HIGHLUX® corrugated sheets requires a torsion-free substructure to safely absorb snow and wind loads (use glulam beams for timber constructions). To prevent localized heating of the corrugated sheets, the surfaces of the substructure facing the corrugated sheets must be white or light-reflecting. If the substructure is treated with varnish or paint, it must be allowed to flash off for several weeks before the panels are installed.
