POLYVANTIS Celebrates 50 Years of Innovation at Its Wiener Neustadt Plant, a Center of Excellence for Multiwall Polycarbonate Sheet
Wiener Neustadt, Austria – This year, POLYVANTIS marks the 50th anniversary of extrusion at its Wiener Neustadt production plant, celebrating half a century of manufacturing excellence, innovation, and community partnership at one of the company's most important sites. Located approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Vienna, the plant has been in full operation since 1976 and is today the center of excellence for multiwall polycarbonate sheet production in Europe.

A Legacy of Innovation Spanning Five Decades
The polymer processing activities at the site date back to 1976, when the plant was operated by a private company called Cartoplast, which filed a patent application in 1977 for one of the first multiwall polycarbonate sheet products. This pioneering innovation helped establish a product category that remains central to the site today.
Over the following decades, the Wiener Neustadt site expanded its production, storage, and office capabilities under General Electric Plastics and later SABIC. In 2016, Wiener Neustadt became SABIC’s European Center of Excellence for LEXAN™ THERMOCLEAR™ multiwall polycarbonate sheet production.
Today, the site provides multiwall polycarbonate sheet solutions for roofing, skylights, interiors, and stadium applications to more than 80 customers in over 30 countries. Its products help create durable, light-transmitting spaces in applications ranging from everyday buildings to high-profile public venues. LEXAN™ THERMOCLEAR™ Sheet manufactured in Wiener Neustadt has also contributed to landmark Austrian stadium projects, including Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim, and Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck.
Part of a Global, Multi-Material Leader
In 2024, the site became part of POLYVANTIS through the merger of SABIC’s Functional Forms and Röhm’s Acrylic Products division.
